The difference between a great batsman and a good batsman is often determined by how he establishes his innings after he is set on the crease. KL Rahul once again proved how he is far off the former category by giving away his wicket with a rash shot in the World Cup encounter against Afghanistan on Saturday. The opener’s failed reverse sweep made the netizens unhappy and they conveyed it in no uncertain terms.

After opening partner Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, Rahul took his time to settle and scored 30 off 56 balls at a strike rate of 56.60, before attempting a reverse sweep off Mohammad Nabi’s bowling that went up in the air and was safely held by Hazratullah Zazai.   

The Twitteratti termed his shot ‘horrible,’ ‘stupid’, ‘poor’, ‘ugliest’ and expressed how he often gave his wicket away after a good start. One agitated Twitter user even called for an extreme step, to remove him from the squad, while others urged his seniors like Captain Virat Kohli and Head Coach Ravi Shastri to advise him not to play such shots. 

Many of them were also unhappy about the Karnataka batsman playing a ‘slow’ knock.

After Rahul, India also lost the wickets of Vijay Shankar and Virat Kohli and India were in a spot of bother at 143/ 4 in 33 overs.
