World Cup 2019 | WATCH: Both Steve Smith and Marcus Stoinis land at the same end due to a ridiculous misunderstanding

Reigning World Champions Australia are looking to strengthen their semifinal spot against the hosts and title favourites England in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 clash at the 'Mecca of Cricket', Lord's on Tuesday. The Aussies are at the second position after registering five wins from six matches with 10 points. Their solitary loss had come against India. On the other hand, England are at the fourth position after four wins from six games with eight points including two losses. While the Eoin Morgan-led side had lost to Pakistan, Sri Lanka caused a huge upset as they got the better of the hosts by 20 runs. 

Coming back to the match between the arch-rivals, there was a bizarre incident which took place during the first innings. It was a comedy of errors which involved Aussie all-rounder Marcus Stoinis. It happened in the 42nd over of the Australian innings which was bowled by Adil Rashid. On the third delivery of that over,  Steve Smith hit a widish delivery which was bowled outside the off stump through wide mid off. The ball, which was timed well, found a neat gap between covers and long-off.

Sensing an opportunity, Stoinis ran for a second, but Smith was not interested. The all-rounder, nevertheless, ran all the way to the other end, leading to both the Australian batsmen getting stranded at the non-strikers' end.

Unfortunately for Stoinis, Jonny Bairstow, who was stationed at long-off had covered some distance to his left and was quick enough to collect the ball. Meanwhile, Bairstow threw the ball to the bowler's end and Rashid collected it. The leg-spinner then gently threw it to wicket-keeper Jos Buttler who knocked the bails off as the dangerous Stoinis ran back to the pavilion.

England skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Aussies got off to a flying start as both David Warner and skipper Aaron Finch added 123 runs for the opening wicket. Warner got out after scoring a good half-century. Captain Finch then stabilised his team's innings as he registered his second century of the tournament. He was dismissed for a 116-ball 100. 

After Finch's dismissal, the five-time World Champions then saw a batting collapse as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In the end, wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey's finishing touches helped them get to 285/7 in their 50 overs.
