The BCCI's CoA (Committee of Administrators) is scheduled to hold a meeting with coach Ravi Shastri and skipper Virat Kohli to discuss the Team India's performance and the team combination, keeping in mind that the preparations and grooming of players for the 2023 World Cup needs to begin at the earliest, as per sources.

After India's exit from the World Cup, post a defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the semi-finals, calls for the splitting of the captaincy for the three different formats gained some voice, with some advocating Test captaincy for Virat Kohli while the limited overs game could see Rohit Sharma as the skipper for the Men in Blue. Rumors of an alleged rift between Sharma and Kohli also gained momentum in the background, although no indications of such rift were seen during the World Cup.

Wasim Jaffer had stated this view:

Now, as per reports, a BCCI functionary has claimed that the governing body was keen on looking at split captaincy for an option and the topic would feature during their discussion. The member was of the opinion that it was the ideal time for Rohit Sharma to take over the captaincy for the shorter formats, keeping in mind the need to kick-start preparations for the next showpiece event at the global stage, while Virat Kohli could continue as the captain for the Test side.

Another point which is likely to be discussed during the meeting, as per PTI, is why was Ambati Rayudu was persisted with till the final series when the team management or the selectors were not convinced that he was the solution for the number four slot.
