Pakistan had become the butt of jokes after their humiliating defeat against arch-rivals India, but even after three wins on the trot since that, the team is still at the receiving end. The peculiar situation of the team needing to beat Bangladesh by over 300 runs, to qualify for the semi-finals gave the netizens another opportunity to troll the squad. Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed’s bold statement about the possibility of a ‘miracle’ and that they will try to score 500, was another moment that sparked memes galore. As the team could only manage to go a bit over 300 against their Asian counterpart, needing to restrict their opponent to just 7 runs to stand a chance, even the International Cricket Council trolled the team.

Aided by Imam-ul-Haq's 100 and Babar Azam’s 96, Pakistan could score only 315/9 in their 50 overs in their last group stage encounter. While even 350 would’ve demanded they dismiss Bangladesh for 39, this score meant they had to restrict the opposition to just 7 runs, to have a chance to qualify via net run rate.

The official handle of ICC shared Jim Carrey's popular ‘So You’re Telling Me There’s A Chance’ meme from ‘Dumb & Dumber‘ alluding it to the feelings of the fans.

ICC captioned the post, “Pakistan need to keep Bangladesh to 7 or below to qualify for the #CWC19 semi-finals... Pakistan fans right now: #PAKvBAN | #WeHaveWeWIll.”

Bangladesh had already scored 164/5 at the time of publishing this story, and if things go their way, Pakistan will have to be content with a consolation win to return home.

The semifinalists have now been confirmed, Australia, India, England and New Zealand. The last two are set to finish 3rd and 4th respectively while who finishes on top will be determined by India vs Sri Lanka and Australia vs South Africa encounters. The table topper will face New Zealand, while the second-placed team will be up against England.
