Manchester City can potentially book a place in the next round of the Champions League with a win over an in-form Atalanta in Milan on Wednesday night. Although Atalanta have struggled to replicate their league form in the Champions League, they can prove to be a tricky opponent for City especially at home.

Atalanta will once again be without in-form striker Duvan Zapata for the Champions League tie. The Colombian striker, who suffered a thigh injury back in October, will be a great miss for the home side. Deputy striker Luis Muriel has stepped up well in his absence at least in the Serie A, having scored eight times in nine league appearances.

Manchester City, meanwhile, also have a plethora of injuries to deal with. Oleksandr Zinchenko, David Silva and Rodri have joined longterm absentees Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane on the treatment table. Sergio Aguero is also expected to be rested as Pep Guardiola will have one eye on Sunday when his side visits Anfield to face Liverpool.

Champions League: Atalanta vs Manchester City match preview

City's Premier League campaign has been a bit off track as they have already lost twice in the league and are trailing Liverpool by six points. Their Champions League run, however, has been immaculate so far with three wins in three games having scored 10 goals and conceding just once. They are unsurprisingly the early season favourites to lift the trophy and should top Group C with relative ease. Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has instilled an attacking philosophy at Atalanta but will need an inspiring performance from his side, if they were to get a positive result on Wednesday.
