UFC superstar Conor McGregor has named Arsenal's £25 million ace Kieran Tierney as his favourite footballer. The left-back had  joined the Gunners from Celtic this summer and is hoping to secure a regular starting place after recovering from injury. Asked to name his favourite footballer, McGregor said that nowadays there’s a young guy, Kieran Tierney whom he loves watching.

Tierney was clearly touched by McGregor's words and went on to post the video of McGregor speaking about him on Twitter and thanking him for his appreciation. The Gunner had suffered an injury and the Scotland international is still waiting to be handed his Premier League debut by Unai Emery. He has featured three times in Cup competitions so far - generally impressing Arsenal fans, despite being twisted inside out by ex-Spurs man Marcus Edwards for Vitoria's first goal in the match.

Tierney has captained the Scotland national team

The 22-year-old had been an unused substitute for the Gunners' last two league games, but was handed his Premier League debut when Arsenal faced Crystal Palace at home on Sunday. Tierney received his first call-up to the senior Scotland squad on March 10, 2016 for a friendly against Denmark. Tierney played for the first half of the match, which Scotland won 1–0 at Hampden Park; however, he was replaced at the break by his former Celtic teammate Charlie Mulgrew. Due to Tierney's greater adaptability compared to fellow left-back Andrew Robertson, Tierney was deployed at right-back in Scotland's matches against Slovenia, Lithuania and Slovakia, and on the left of a three-man defence in the fixture at home to England during the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 2017. Tierney was selected as Scotland captain for a friendly match against the Netherlands in November 2017, where he played as a central defender in a 0-1 defeat.
