Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele and others to score 700 plus career goals

Cristiano Ronaldo reached a milestone as he became the sixth player to cross the 700-goal landmark. Here are the five other players to break the 700 barrier.

Portuguese goal machine Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 700th goal of his career when he netted in Portugal's 1-2 loss against Ukraine at the Kyiv Olympic Stadium on Monday night. Ronaldo scored a second-half penalty to reach the career milestone but could not prevent his side from losing the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier against the Ukrainians. As a result of last night's iconic moment in Kyiv, Ronaldo became the sixth highest goal-scorer in international football. Here is a list of the other top-five scorers who have crossed the 700-goal barrier in the past.

Gerd Muller

Germany and Bayern Munich legend Gerd Muller has a tally of 735 career goals between 1962-1981. Ronaldo will be eyeing this milestone next as he gears up for a crucial season with Italian giants Juventus FC.

Ferenc Puskas

Iconic Real Madrid forward Ferenc Puskas is ahead of Muller and Ronaldo at 746 goals in a career spanning from 1943-1966. Puskas, after whom the prestigious FIFA Puskas is named, also famously led Hungary to the final of the 1954 World Cup where he was named best player.

Pele

Pele, often regarded as the greatest footballer of all time, ranks third in this list with 767 goals while playing for Santos FC and New York Cosmos between 1957-1977. Will Ronaldo be able to meet the Brazilian legend's iconic milestone?

Romario

Another Brazilian, Romario is second on the list with 772 goals between 1985 and 2007. The legendary forward reached that landmark while playing for Vasco da Gama, PSV, and Barcelona. 

Josef Bican

Josef "Pepi" Bican has been credited by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) as the most prolific goalscorer in the last century. Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) has claimed that the Czech-Austrian player has scored at least 805 goals during his career.
