Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against Atalanta broke the internet as the defending Premier League champions will have to wait to get into the knock out stage of the Champions League. Though unable to put up a point on the tally board, City’s social media team scored well with a video of Kyle Walker as a goalkeeper on the team’s official roster.
In the match against Atalanta, Raheem Sterling gave City the lead. Unfortunately, City squandered the lead later on. It all started when Claudio Bravo replaced an injured Ederson. Within minutes, Bravo was sent off with a red card for bringing down Josip Ilicic. It forced City manager Pep Guardiola to handover the goalkeeper’s gloves to Kyle Walker for the final nine minutes. Walker made a save from a free-kick, but City’s defenders ensured he had smooth sailing.
Ahead of the match against Atalanta, City needed a point from their last two games to enter to the knockout stage. Now, all the focus will be on Sunday’s crunch Premier League match against Liverpool at Anfield. Not only will Liverpool have the home advantage, but the fact that City has not won a game there in 16 years will also weigh heavily on the minds of both the teams. In Sunday’s match, Manchester City will look to close the three-point gap to finish at the top of the table.
City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed concerned about Ederson’s fitness. However, team sources said that it would be unlikely that Walker will be asked to take on the goalkeeping mantle. Reports suggest that in case Ederson is unable to take the field, Bravo will replace him. However, videos of Walker making some impressive saves during the practice have been posted on social media platforms, leading to speculations that he may be one of the replacements for Ederson.
