Former Manchester United central midfielder, Paul Scholes, stated that the difficult times Manchester United are going through can be attributed to the mismanagement in the club after Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. He further added that when David Moyes purchased Maroune Fellaini for £ 32 million and Mata for £30 million, it was a questionable move as to how did the senior hierarchy allow unnecessary money to be spent on players who were not performing well enough.

Strong words against Manchester United's current situation

Scholes further said that despite 6 years down the line, Mata and Fellaini never matched up to the "Manchester United" quality even though they were good players in their own capacity.

Paul was certain that neither Alex Ferguson or then football director, Davi Gill, would have bought players that were not of the quality United needed. In addition to this he said that, with Ole Gunnar Solsksjaer being appointed as the new manager, he needs at least 5 transfer windows to sort out the mess of the previous managers. The board needs to be patient with him and give him some time to steer United back to winning ways.

The former 2008 Champions League winner, said that Ole's first few signings such as Harry Maguire, Daniel James, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have been very promising on the field but still this team needs time to rebuild and compete with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

The now-retired football player stated that the Red Devils need to find inspiration on and off the field given the injury blows United has received in the past few weeks.

An injury blow for United

Meanwhile, Manchester United suffered an injury blow ahead of their clash with Liverpool at  Old Trafford on October 20. David de Gea was substituted with an apparent groin injury in Spain's 1-1 draw with Sweden in a UEFA Euro qualifier match that was played at the Friends Arena on October 16.

With De Gea's problem, the Machester United need to deal with a number of injury issues of senior players such as Paul Pogba, Aaron Wan- Bissaka, Anthony Martial and first-choice left-back, Luke Shaw all fighting to be fit and available for selection.

This has left Ole out of options as he struggles to register a 3rd win in 9 matches. Manchester United are at a lowly 12th position in the Premier League and have won only 2 matches alongside 4 draws and 2 losses in the 8 league matches they have played so far.
