Premier League transfers: Man United have agreed to sign this teenager

Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Mateo Mejia for £130,000. The 16-year-old attracted a wide range of interest following his incredible spell of form for Real Zaragoza's youth team last season. According to Spanish media, Manchester United have won the race for his signature. The source claims that Mejia is already making his mark at the club after arriving at Carrington in July. It is reported that the youngster is being put through his paces with Man United's Under-18 squad.

Mejia had offers from top clubs

Mejia was free to leave the Spanish side after failing to agree terms on a professional contract. Arsenal, Real Madrid and Valencia were also said to be keen. However, he has decided to move to Man United as part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s overhaul of the current squad. Ivan Rakitic has snubbed a possible move to Old Trafford as he would reportedly prefer a move to AC Milan or Paris Saint-Germain.

Mateo Mejia scored a remarkable 60 goals last season for Zaragoza and is likely to replace outgoing academy graduate Mipo Odubeko. The Old Trafford club were persistent in their chase for Mejia and in June 2019, Zaragoza were forced to deny that their promising forward had moved to England.  But their resistance was finally broken and United have their man.

Real Madrid had held an interest in the player, who usually plays on the right wing, but Zaragoza rejected a £431,000 offer from Los Blancos.  Mejia is currently suffering with an ankle injury but no doubt United fans will be eager to see him in action for the academy. He joins former Monaco wonderkid Hannibal Mejbri and Noah Emergan as promising youngsters to join the club.

Manchester United endured a difficult start to the season. They are currently placed 14th in the Premier League table. Ole would be looking to strengthen his side and Mejia will definitely be a part of the manager's re-einforcement plans.
