It was an embarrassing night for Tottenham Hotspur as they were battered 7-2 in front of their own fans by Bayern Munich on matchday 2 of this season's UEFA Champions League. Many labelled this Group B encounter as the most high-profile game of matchday 2, but Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski had other ideas. The duo combined brilliantly to decimate an already unsettled Spurs defence to smash four and two goals respectively. Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has had a difficult time at the club. The North London club has won just one out of their last five games in all competitions.

Gnabry made his professional debut for Arsenal in September 2012. Very few believed in his ability when he joined Arsenal from the VfB Stuttgart academy. He was sent to West Brom on loan, and his career only took an upturn when he returned to Germany three years go at Werder Bremen, which ultimately earned him a permanent transfer to Bayern. Gnabry, a former youngster at Arsenal, was ruthless as he became the first German to hit four goals in a Champions League game since Mario Gomez in 2012. The Germany International's rise since joining the Bavarians has been commendable. On Tuesday night, he annihilated his former North London rivals with four superb goals.

Spurs started the game well as Son Heung-min deservedly put the hosts ahead inside 13 minutes. The celebrations were short-lived as Joshua Kimmich fired an unstoppable low drive just three minutes later to beat Hugo Lloris. Lewandowski added another before the break to give Bayern the advantage. The story after half time was entirely different. Bayern started strongly after the break and Gnabry scored twice in two minutes. Spurs looked to bounce back but Harry Kane's penalty was nothing but a consolation. The German scored two more on either side of Lewandowski's second in the final 10 minutes, to put the game to bed.
