Cody Rhodes’ bid for the AEW World Championship came to a bloody end, with the wrestler getting eight stitches on his forehead and suffering costochondral separation. To add more pain to the injury, Cody also had to suffer betrayal from his best friend MJF, who threw in the towel after seeing Cody get pummeled in the ring. He later turned on him and hit him with a nut shot. Now, Cody, as per his stipulation, will not be able to challenge for the title again.

Issuing a health update, AEW showed a photo of an injured Cody, stating that he has eight stitches on his forehead and a costochondral separation. Costochondral separation, also known as rib separation, occurs due to a direct impact on the chest. According to doctors, the healing time for the injury is between three to four weeks. The company mentioned that the wrestler is not cleared for action at this time.

Forehead injury

Cody suffered the injury to his forehead after he dived out to the metal ramp that was connected to the ring. He missed Chris Jericho and landed face down, resulting in a nasty cut above his right eye. The injury nearly stopped the match, but Dr. Michael Sampson checked Cody right after the match and cleared him to continue. Cody’s doctor, who was a former ER nurse, stitched him up after his match.

The match’s pace was relatively slow, making it seem like it will go on for the full 60 minutes. However, after a gruesome clash, MJF saw an already bloodied Cody in the walls of Jericho and forfeited the match. After the match, MJF acted all contrite, almost in tears, at Cody’s loss. But it was all a set-up. As Cody tried to soothe him, he delivered a nut shot, followed by an evil grin. Now, it would be interesting to see how the MJF-Cody feud shapes up on AEW. Meanwhile, Jericho is still the AEW Champion. Towards the end of the night, as MJF left the ring, fans doused him with beer.
