IND vs SA, Day 3: India look to establsih big lead

After winning the toss, Team India captain Virat Kohli decided to bat first. Since then, it has purely been a Team India show. After declaring the first innings at 502, the Indians were quick to unsettle the Proteas batting line-up and picked up three wickets in the twenty overs that they bowled.

IND vs SA: A Recap of Day 1 and Day 2

Day 1 started with first-time Test opener Rohit Sharma making a statement. Rohit scored his fourth Test hundred and his first as a Test opener on Wednesday. Rohit was his aggressive self but also poised and controlled. The other opener Agarwal supported him pretty well, the first day ended sooner than planned because of heavy rains and India still had not lost a wicket yet.

The match resumed on Thursday and the skies looked clear enough for a whole day's play. Rohit continued his innings with the same flair and got to 176 before finally getting out. On the other hand, Agarwal got to his maiden Test hundred in only his fifth Test match for India. Agarwal then proceeded to steal the show as he got to his maiden double century to much applause from the crowd and the dressing room. Agarwal got out at 215. The Indian batting easily got to 502 before skipper Virat Kohli declared the Indian innings. The first innings included a 317-run stand between Rohit and Agarwal.

Ashwin leads the bowling attack

As the first South African Innings began, Indian bowlers took no time in unsettling the Proteas line-up. In the 8th over, opener Aiden Markram fell to Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin also picked up the wicket of Theunis de Bruyn in the 17th over. The Proteas experimented by sending Dane Piedt up the order and he failed too as he was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja on just the fourth ball he faced. Mohammed Shami bowled two overs in which he did not concede a single run. The day's play ended with South Africa at 39/3 after 20 overs. India will look to wrap up the South African line-up on Day 3 and probably ask the Proteas to follow-on.
