After becoming a mother just four months ago, Brazilian-American martial artist Mackenzie Dern faced the first loss of her MMA career against Amanda Ribas at UFC Fight Night 161. Mackenzie stepped inside the octagon with an undefeated record of 7-0 but Ribas dominated the entire fight and got the victory by a unanimous decision. This was clearly tough for Mackenzie since she came back to the octagon after fighting in May 2018. In her 2018 bout, she got the victory against Amanda Cooper by a rear-naked choke and stayed out of UFC after getting pregnant.
Mackenzie Dern got a lot of applause from the entire MMA community after she decided to return into the octagon just four months after giving birth to a baby. She believes that she gave her best inside the octagon but that was definitely not enough to get a victory against the talented Amanda Ribas. Ribas dominated the entire match and the judges scored her over Mackenzie Dern in all three rounds. However, Dern accepted the loss and made no excuses. She said that Amanda was better that night and it is absolutely okay to lose at times.
It is great news that Mackenzie Dern has not faced any serious injury despite facing her first loss at UFC Tampa. Mackenzie Dern is surely hungry for a fight and she intends to make her octagon return very soon. If nothing goes wrong, UFC fans can see Mackenzie Dern back in the octagon by the beginning of 2020. In a recent interview, Dern has said that she will return in February. There’s probably a card in Brazil on February and Dern is aiming her comeback on that. In the meantime, she is heading towards Mexico to support her husband for a surf competition. The UFC star is continuing her training and looks promising for the future.
