WWE Heavyweight championship matches have been one of the highlights of the entertainment show until the title got unified with WWE Championship in 2013.

For decades, WWE has been a pinnacle of wrestling entertainment. The roaster itself includes a plethora of superstars who are admired and loved worldwide. WWE has also been largely responsible for glorifying wrestling to the mainstream audience. Another point that makes WWE stand apart from other federations are the various titles and championships it has and the unique values behind each of them. The championships and title matches have always given fans a cinematic feeling and the popular wrestling company always finds new ways to make rivalries interesting for the viewers. Among all WWE titles, the World Heavyweight Championship was given much importance during its time as it was considered as one of the top prizes in the show’s history before it unified with the WWE Championship in 2013.

3. John Cena vs Edge

The ‘John Cena vs Edge’ rivalry has been one of the most gripping and action-packed in the show’s history. Between 2006 and 2009, the duo exchanged blows in many world title matches. However, they saved their best for their ‘Last Man Standing’ match at ‘Backlash 2009’. During the course of their 30-minute battle, both superstars gave nothing away to their opponent until the last minute. However, just when Cena was about to dispatch Edge, an interference by Big Show’s massive chokeslam sent Cena into the spotlight. As John Cena was unable to answer the referee’s 10 count, Edge became the new WWE World Heavyweight champion.

2. Jeff Hardy vs CM Punk

The two high-flying superstars were engaged in an epic TLC match at SummerSlam in 2009. CM Punk made full use of his ‘Money in the Bank’ account as the duo gave the spectators one of the best TLC matches in recent memory. After 21 minutes of exhilarating action, Punk finally knocked Hardy down to unhook the title belt.

1. Batista vs The Undertaker

In a time when Batista was SmackDown’s biggest superstar, his biggest challenge awaited him at WrestleMania 2007 in the form of Undertaker. The Phenom with an undefeated 14-0 streak at the biggest show was also set to have his breathtaking WrestleMania match. In a colossal 16-minute showdown, both superstars exchanged several finishers before ‘The Deadman’ finally landed his Tombstone Piledriver on ‘The Animal’. Taker celebrated his world title win in his trademark style as his streak extended to become 15-0.
