Karthik Meiyappan became the first player from the United Arab Emirates to take a hat-trick at a T20 World Cup on Tuesday when he ripped through the Sri Lanka middle order in their Group A qualifier in Geelong, Australia.
The 22 year-old leg spinner took the wickets of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka and opposition skipper Dasun Shanaka in successive deliveries as UAE restricted Sri Lanka to 152 for eight from their 20 overs.

The target proved beyond UAE though - they were bowled out for 73 and lost the match by 79 runs, their second straight defeat of the tournament.
