Coco Gauff: Steffi Graf shares her thoughts on 15-year-old tennis star

Coco Gauff made history after becoming the youngest women player in 15 years to clinch a WTA Tour event after winning her maiden title in Linz, Austria

Coco Gauff made the headline a few days ago when she clinched her first ATP title in Linz, Austria. By doing so at the age of 15, she became the youngest woman in 15 years to clinch a WTA Tour event. Former World No 1 and German legend Steffi Graf believes Cori ‘’Coco’ Gauff is well on the way to stardom.

Talking to reporters on sidelines of WTA Zhuhai Elite Trophy event in Zhuhai China on Tuesday, the 22-time major singles winner from Germany said that the youngster is going to be incredible to follow in the next few years.

Speaking about her performance, Graf said that the American teenager has got such an effortless style and such raw talent that she doesn't think the youngster will need anything or any advice.

Coco Gauff stunning season

Gauff has so far enjoyed a stunning 2019 season on the WTA circuit. The teen reached the last-16 at Wimbledon and the third round of the US Open this year. The American teenager is set to finish the year ranked 68th, having begun it as the World No 685.

Steffi Graf career

German Graf turned pro at the age of 12 and five years later, she won her first Grand Slam singles title at the 1987 French Open. Graf, who is nicknamed “Fraulein Forehand,” for her blistering forehand, swept all four majors and the Olympic gold singles medal in 1988. In 1999, Graf quit the game at the age of 30 after winning that year’s Roland Garros and reaching the final of the Wimbledon.
