Boxing legend and two-time heavyweight champion George Foreman passed away at the age of 76. The boxer took his last breath on March 21, according to a statement released by the family members. Foreman's most iconic fight was in 1974 'Rumble in the Jungle' when he faced Muhammad Ali, but conceded defeat. Two decades later, Foreman won the prestigious title.
In an official statement, the family members said that Foreman was ‘surrounded by loved ones’.
“With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr, who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones," family members said in a statement.
It further added that Foreman lived a life filled with unwavering faith, humility, and purpose. The family members also asked for privacy after the death of Foreman.
“He lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose. Humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, he was deeply respected - a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name - for his family. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers, and kindly ask for privacy as we honor the extraordinary life of a man we were blessed to call our own," it further added.
However, the reason for the death of the boxer is yet to be revealed by the family members.
The legendary boxer's stunning career had 76 wins, which includes 68 knockouts, almost double of Ali. He won the Olympics gold in 1968 and clinched the world heavyweight title twice, 21 years apart. He was also the second oldest champion in history aged 45.
Foreman retired from boxing in 1997 and lost only five bouts throughout his career. His first career defeat was against Muhammad Ali.
