Indian Premier League: Kolkata Knight Riders will lock horns against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opening fixture on March 22 at the Eden Gardens. However, the rain threat looms large at the extravagant event. Top Indian celebrities like Karan Aujla, Disha Patani, and Shreya Ghoshal will be performing in the IPL 2025 opening ceremony but there's a high chance rain can play a spoilsport.

Kolkata's Weather Forecast On March 22

According to Google Weather, there will be light showers in the morning on March 22 but the rest of the day will stay cloudy. In the evening around 6 Pm to 10 Pm when the IPL 2025 opener will be played, there's a 40 percent chance of rain.

On the eve of the IPL 2025 opener, covers were seen at Eden Gardens Stadium due to rain. Royal Challengers Bengaluru also failed to hold practice sessions due to light showers in Kolkata. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Kolkata, thunderstorms with gusty wind, lightning, and light to moderate rainfall are likely to occur in the nearing districts of Kolkata, which might disrupt the weather in the 'City of Joy'.

According to AccuWeather, there's a 90 percent chance of rain in Kolkata on March 22. The morning of the IPL 2025 opener will see persistent rain. The weather will see a change later with bright periods in the afternoon.

What Happens If KKR vs RCB Washed Out Due To Rain? 

There are no reserve days kept for any of the IPL group stage matches. So, if the much-anticipated clash of the upcoming edition of the tournament washed out due to rain, both the Knight Riders and Royal Challengers will share one point each. It will be a disappointing start for the fans if rain plays spoilsport on March 22.

In the previous season, Kolkata Knight Riders clinched the IPL 2024 title after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the Final clash. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru ended their voyage in IPL 2024 in the play-offs following their disappointing defeat against Rajasthan Royals.
