Chess Olympiad 2024: Cash awards announced for Indian team; Here's how much each player will earn

The Indian Men's team, led by D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, and R Praggnanandhaa, dominated the competition, defeating Slovenia in the final round.

In a historic achievement, India's chess teams won gold medals at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary. To celebrate this remarkable feat, the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, and the All India Chess Federation (AICF) have announced substantial cash awards for each player.

The Indian Men's team, led by D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, and R Praggnanandhaa, dominated the competition, scoring 21 out of 22 points and defeating Slovenia in the final round. Gukesh, in particular, had an outstanding performance, winning 10 out of 11 rounds. The Women's team, led by D Harika, Tania Sachdev, and R Vaishali, also secured their gold medal after a thrilling final against Azerbaijan.

Here's how much cash awards each player won after the historic double gold at Chess Olympiad

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has awarded a sum of INR 20,00,000 to each member of the Indian chess team. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has also announced awards for select players: INR 25,00,000 each for D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, and R Vaishali, INR 15,00,000 for Srinath.

Additionally, the AICF awarded INR 25 lakh to each player, INR 15 lakh to team captains, INR 10 lakh to Dibyendu Barua, the Head of the Indian delegation, and INR 7.5 lakh to the Assistant coaches.

- Vidit Gujrathi: ₹45 lakh

- Pentala Harikrishna: ₹45 lakh

- Divya Deshmukh: ₹45 lakh

- Vantika Agarwal: ₹45 lakh

- Tania Sachdev: ₹45 lakh

Also, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the winners of the 45th Chess Olympiad at his residence in New Delhi, congratulating them on their impressive achievement and making the nation proud globally. PM Modi spent nearly an hour with the Indian players, talking to each individual and sharing their experience.
