Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) have decided to extend the contract of head coach Jonathan Trott following the team's impressive show in World Cup 2023.

Former England player, and head coach of the Afghanistan cricket team, Jonathan Trott, has received a contract extension for producing exceptional results with the Afghani team. The decision was taken after taking into account his performance over the last 18 months.

Afghanistan Cricket Board extends Jonathan Trott's contract as head coach

ACB named the South African-born former English cricketer as head coach of the national squad in July 2022. The team achieved remarkable success and several victories under his leadership, including an impressive performance at the T20 Asia Cup 2022, and a T20I series victory against Pakistan. A maiden ODI series victory over Bangladesh, and a successful campaign at the ICC Men's World Cup 2023.

Trott as a player

Trott appeared in 52 Test matches for England between 2009 and 2015, amassing 3835 runs at 44.08 with nine hundreds and 19 half-centuries with the best of 226 in an innings. He also represented England in 68 One Day Internationals (ODIs), scoring 2838 runs at 51.25 with four hundreds and 22 half-centuries.

Afghanistan Team is currently in the United Arab Emirates for a three-match Twenty20 International series against the home team. Following that, they will travel to India for a three-match T20I series, which will take place from January 11 to 17. Furthermore, the team will compete in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the Caribbean and the United States in June.
