At 35 years, Jay Shah has become the youngest ICC Chairman. Shah will begin his tenure as the ICC Chairman on December 1, 2024.
Jay Shah has created history by becoming the youngest head of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Shah was elected unopposed as no nominations were filed against him. He succeeds New Zealand's Greg Barclay as the new chairman of the ICC. Before overseeing the day-to-day work of the ICC, Shah will have give up his BCCI post, which he has held since 2019. Shah will start his tenure in the ICC on December 1, 2024.
Shah's contribution to Indian cricket has been nothing but terrific. Under his tenure, Team India played two World Test Championship finals (2021 and 2023), qualified for the finals of the ODI World Cup (2023) and ended up winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup (2024). Shah sitting at the helm of the ICC means that he will have to shift to Dubai.
List Of People Who Can Succeed Jay Shah As BCCI Secretary
Rohan Jaitley: Son of late Arun Jaitley, Rohan Jaitley is one of the strongest candidate to succeed Jay Shah as the BCCI secretary. Delhi-based Jaitley is a lawyer who represents clients before the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court. In 2023, he was elected DDCA President unopposed. A report in Dainik Bhaskar states that Rohan Jaitley has strong chances of succeeding jay Shah.
Snehashish Ganguly: Former Indian first-class cricketer and president of the Cricket Association of Bengal knows the nuances of administration in an out. Snehashish Ganguly is former India cricket team captain and ex-BCCI president. Ganguly might very well be one of the contenders to take on a leadership role in the BCCI.
Rajiv Shukla: Born on September 13, 1959, Rajiv Shukla is a former journalist, Indian politician, political commentator and the former chairman of Indian Premier League. Shukla who was elected as the Chairman of IPL by the BCCI in 2015 was also elected unopposed Vice President of the BCCI in 2020. Shukla has been closely associated with the BCCI for many years now and might be good fit to succeed Jay Shah.
Jay Shah's First Reaction On Becoming ICC President
Shah reacted to his appointment by saying that he looks forward to working closely with the ICC and globalizing the sport. Shah also stressed on the coexistence of multiple formats.
