BCCI Offers First Reaction On Jay Shah Being Elected As The New ICC Chairman

BCCI has offered its first reaction after Jay Shah was officially announced as the new independent chair of the ICC.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday announced Jay Shah as its new chairman replacing the outgoing Greg Barclay. Jay Shah will become the youngest Chairman of ICC and will start his tenure from December 1st, 2024. 

As Jay Shah takes over as the new chairman of ICC, he will be moving on from his role as BCCI secretary. BCCI has issued its first reaction on Jay Shah becoming the new chairman of ICC. 

BCCI's first reaction on Jay Shah becoming the new ICC Chairman

Jay Shah took over as the secretary of BCCI back in 2019 and he will now be ensuring a smooth transition to his heir as he moves on to take over his ICC responsibilities. 

The BCCI took to social media and congratulated Jay Shah for becoming the new chairman of ICC. 

“Congratulations to BCCI Honorary Secretary Mr. Jay Shah for being elected unopposed as the next Independent Chair of the International Cricket Council,” BCCI congratulated Jay Shah on X. 

Messages flood to congratulate Jay Shah

India head coach Gautam Gambhir, BCCI president Roger Binny and all-rounder Hardik Pandya led the long list of joyous members of the cricketing fraternity in lauding Jay Shah, who was on Tuesday elected unopposed as the ICC Chairman.

Gambhir, who has taken over as head coach from Rahul Dravid, said: "Many congrats @JayShah bhai! I know world cricket will grow tremendously under your exceptional leadership!" Pandya, who played a pivotal role in India's recent T20 World Cup triumph wrote: "Congratulations @Jay Shah bhai on being elected as the youngest chairman of ICC.

"Look forward to seeing you take cricket to even greater heights. Your vision and drive will help ICC, just like it did with BCCI." Binny, the 1983 World Cup winner, rated Shah as a "strong pillar" of BCCI.

"I take this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Jay Shah on his appointment as the independent chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC). He has been a strong pillar as the BCCI Honorary Secretary and the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

"He has been a cornerstone in ideating and implementing some of the pathbreaking initiatives in cricket. As he takes over as the ICC Chairman, I am sure his foresight and leadership will further enhance the reputation and well-being of our beloved game," he said.

According to ICC law, Jay Shah will have to relocate to Dubai as ICC Chairman have to work from the UAE.
