BCCI Puts The North-East Region On The Map For Tests & World Cup, Guwahati Stadium Set To Host Maiden Red-Ball Encounter

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has revealed that the Assam Cricket Stadium will be hosting Tests and the ICC Women's World Cup matches.

The North-East region of India will soon experience the taste of Test Cricket, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India plans to bring red-ball action in Assam, particularly Guwahati. The ACA Cricket Stadium, which has hosted white-ball matches as well as a few IPL encounters, will soon host a Test match, which will be a historic moment in the region. Apart from that, Guwahati will also play host to one of the upcoming ICC Women's World Cup, which will happen later this year.

BCCI Puts Northeast On The Map, ACA Stadium Set To Host Test & WC Matches

BCCI General Secretary Devajit Saikia has announced that the ACA Stadium in Guwahati will be hosting one of Team India's Test matches, which will feature top stars like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and many more. Reports mentioned that the Men in Blue will be in action against South Africa in a two-match Test series, and the second match will happen in the northeast region of Assam on November 22. It would identify the ACA Stadium as a Test Cricket venue.

Apart from Test cricket, the BCCI secretary has also revealed the Barsapara Cricket Stadium will be hosting one of the ICC Women's World Cup matches, and it would be the first-ever ICC event in the region. Saikia added that almost five to six matches would be played in Assam.

"No Test and World Cup matches have been played in Guwahati so far. But, as per the decision taken at the BCCI apex council meeting on Saturday, Guwahati will host both those matches this year. The Women's World Cup will be held from September 24 to November 2. The schedule is still being finalised. Guwahati has been selected as one of the venues for it," Devajit Saikia said, as quoted by PTI.

West Indies Set For India Tour After 12 Years 

Apart from the South Africa series, Team India will be hosting the West Indies West Indies on a home tour. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla revealed to the media that the Caribbean Giants will be visiting India for a two-match Test series, and it would happen in October 2025. Shukla revealed that the first test match will be played in the breathtaking location of Mohali, while the second red-ball clash will be held in Kolkata.
