Saint Lucia Kings (SLK) picked up a solid 26-run win over Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on Monday in the ongoing edition of Caribbean Premier League. After being asked to bat, Johnson Charles and Faf du Plessis gave their side a good start, stitching a solid 40-run stand for the opening wicket. Ackeem Auguste contributed 35 off 28 balls, while David Wiese's 26-ball 43 helped SLK post a total of 152-8 in 20 overs.
Antigua and Barbuda Falcons lost early wickets in chase, with Khary Pierre picking up three wickets in his 4 overs for 24 runs. In the middle overs, Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad continued his good form with the ball, giving away just 13 runs in his 4 overs and picking up two crucial wickets.
Despite Chris Green's 48 run-innings, Antigua and Barbuda Falcons were restricted to 126/8 in 20 overs, and SLK won the match by 26-run, getting their second consecutive victory. Pierre was named the Player of the Match for his sensational bowling efforts.
“Really proud of the effort. A lot of spin on the wicket. Could have been a lot better with the bat. Wiese got us in the game. Pierre came in and dominated. He has made a big statement. If you look at the match, the spinners were hard work. We could have pushed them a little. Never judge an innings till both teams have batted. Great way to finish. You could feel the energy in the stadium,” SLK skipper Faf du Plessis said.
“I am really happy. Happy that I could get the team over the line. You have to be a professional and be ready. I just back my ability. The crowd have been amazing, owe this to them. Variations and adaptations were vital. Tried to spin the ball. I think the unit has managed to stick together and played for each other,” Player of the Match Khary Pierre said.
