Duleep Trophy 2024: Ishan Kishan Out From First-Round Match; Sanju Samson Steps in as Replacement

India's domestic schedule kicks off today as the Duleep Trophy tournament begins from today. But right before the domestic season would start, some of Team India's top players would be out of action and will not be a part of the tournament, mostly because of injuries. With the tournament all set to begin today, the BCCI has made some last-minute changes as wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the domestic competition.

Sanju Samson Replaces Ishan Kishan at Duleep Trophy First Round, More Cricketers Injured

Team India Stumper Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 Tournament, as notified by the BCCI. The Board released a statement, revealing that Kishan suffered a groin injury during the Buchi Babu tournament and will be unavailable for action. Sanju Samson gets his chance at revival after he was announced as a replacement for Ishan.

"Wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy due to a groin injury sustained during the ongoing All-India Buchi Babu Tournament. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring his condition and working towards ensuring a swift recovery. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Sanju Samson as Kishan's replacement in the India D squad," The BCCI said in a statement.

According to the reports, Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of Team India in the Twenty20 International format, is also ruled out of the Duleep Trophy's opening round due to a sprained right thumb sustained during fielding in the All-India Buchi Babu Tournament. His availability for the second round will be determined by an additional assessment next week. The BCCI Medical Team is currently looking after him.

Additionally, fast bowler Prasidh Krishna will miss the first-round match as he nears the end of his rehabilitation after his left quadriceps tendon surgery. But on a positive news, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been cleared to play and will be available for selection.
