With Rahul Dravid stepping down, Gambhir's appointment as the India coach has brought joy among the fans as they feel he will be the ideal successor to Dravid, who capped off his run with a T20 World Cup win. The cricket fans have been in awe of the decision made by the BCCI. Even a veteran New Zealand seamer wanted Gambhir to take up the helm and lead the Men in Blue.

Gautam Gambhir has been the top favourite for the Indian Cricket Team coaching role, be it the fans or the pundits. Even New Zealand veteran Simon Doull hailed applause on Gautam Gambhir's name, saying that he is the man a team would be eager to have at the helm.

"Those are the sort of people you want at the helm: Highly respected, tough. He is a tough character, but I think he is a very fair character, and I think he'll do a great job if he was to take over if he was to accept the role," Simon Doull said during his appearance at Cricbuzz.

The prophecy turned out to be true, as on Tuesday, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah revealed that Gautam Gambhir had been appointed as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team.

"Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close. Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward. His clear vision for #TeamIndia, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role," Shah tweeted on X (Formerly Twitter).

Gautam Gambhir is expected to take up the coaching job from the India tour of Sri Lanka. The series will consist of 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs and will take place from July 27 to August 7, 2024.
