Faf du Plessis has made a good impression with the bat as he played his first game of this season for Chennai Super Kings against Kings XI Punjab at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday. Faf opened the batting along with the former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson after MS Dhoni had won the toss and decided to bat first. The duo stitched in a 56 run opening stand before Watson was dismissed for 26 in the eighth over. Faf continued to pile on the runs and bought up his 10th half-century.

The South African skipper scored a blistering 38-ball 54 at a strike rate of 142.11 which included two boundaries and four maximums. CSK got to a competitive 160/3 after finishing touches from MS Dhoni (37) and Ambati Rayadu (21).
