With a great start for LSG in IPL 2024, fast bowler Mayank Yadav attracted notice and showed promise. But an injury caused his otherwise great campaign to be cut short only after four games. The setback presented a hurdle for the budding prodigy, but cricket buffs and supporters will anticipate his return to the competitive field.

Paras Mhambrey urges Mayank Yadav to take as many overs as possible during practice

Paras Mhambrey is pushing Mayank Yadav to bowl as many overs as he can during practice. Yadav has hardly been seen in any cricket tournament since IPL 2024 ended. He only managed to play four games in the IPL season 2024.

After a brilliant debut in the IPL 2024, Delhi's promising fast bowler Mayank Yadav has had a noticeably quiet season. Yadav, who is renowned for his extraordinary speed and accuracy, has not participated in any games since the conclusion of the competition. Former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has underlined that Yadav should concentrate on bowling heavily in the nets at this point of his career rather than let the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sideline him.

Confounding veteran batsmen, the 22-year-old, representing LSG, regularly eclipsed 150 kmph in the four games he played. With his fastest ball of the IPL 2024 season at 155.8kmph, Yadav took three crucial wickets including Jonny Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh, therefore greatly helping LSG to win in his first game against PBKS. His outstanding exploits carried on; his delivery, measured at 156.7 kmph versus RCB, represents the fastest of the season. Speaking to The Indian Express, Paras Mhambrey said:

“I don’t agree that if he is not ready, just don’t play him. This is the age where he has to bowl. A bowler should bowl. The more you bowl, the more you will have control, you will know your threshold as to how much your body can take. You can’t wrap him up in cotton wool saying he will get injured. We can’t overbowl and burn him out but we have to be smart about how much he should bowl. As a fast bowler, he needs to play first-class cricket,”

“When you play one season, you understand your bowling. You bowl in different conditions. Physically, you will be tested in different phases of the game. Sometimes, you will have to be on the ground for six sessions. And to be able to bowl with the same intensity in the last session will give you confidence when you play at the international level. I strongly feel Mayank needs to grind it out in the domestic season,”

“I am not looking at the next 10 or 15 years. I want to see what he can do in the next five. The next three-four years will be extremely crucial for him. Once he is 25-26, he will understand his body much better. And then he will have a good five years at the international level,”

According to several reports, Mayank is currently eyeing to return to competitive cricket and is working at the NCA in Bengaluru. It was anticipated that he would be participating in the DPL but the player seems to not have fully recovered from the injury.
