Team India has come across success in their bouts against South Africa in the ODI Series. The initial one was the T20I series, which ended in a draw after both teams picked one win, while the first match was abandoned due to rain. Team India came off a dicey start as the South African bowling lineup dismissed India's top-order lineup, and they could not contribute much. But KL Rahul has uplifted the team with his 70* run innings as day one ended in Stumps.

While openers and top-order batters like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and more failed to put up an impact in the beginning, KL Rahul uplifted the team's hopes with his batting display. Day 1 ended in Stumps with KL and Mohammed Siraj on strike. The keeper-batter's performance received applause from one of India's cricket greats, Sunil Gavaskar.

While speaking on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said that KL has gained a new viewpoint from his lack of participation in the game due to the injury he sustained in IPL 2023. He no longer views it as a chore and instead views it as a sport to be enjoyed. He went on to say that Rahul is always really positive.

“Earlier on, he used to seem a little bit lost. He's not lost now. He's there, very much there. And that tells you the way he's approaching batting that century at the Asia Cup, that first game was a very good century. You could say lucky that Shreyas Iyer did hurt his back and so he got an opportunity to get into the XI. But that's what you need in life. You need a bit of luck, but then you need to grab that with both hands. And that's what he's done. And now he's made himself undroppable in all three formats,” he added.
