Rohit Sharma Loses Toss To Mitchell Santner, Scripts Unwanted History
The Rohit Sharma-led Team India has all on the line as they lock horns against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy final. It is a grand opportunity for both sides that want to stamp their dominance in ODI cricket. Before the action began at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the UAE, Rohit made history after leveling Brian Lara's unwanted streak.
Team India's Rohit Sharma has lost 12 coin tosses in a row and has leveled Brian Lara's record as the longer toss-losing streak in men's ODI cricket. The unfortunate streak began from the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup Final, when Australia chose to bowl first against the Men in Blue. The Indian opener's losing streak continued till the semifinal against Australia and the summit clash against New Zealand. Rohit's streak began in November 2023 and is still active as of March 2024.
Rohit Sharma was leveled with Netherlands' Peter Borren after losing 11 coin tosses in a row for ODI matches. Now, he has reached Brian Lara's spot to become the joint leaders of losing the most tosses in One-Day Internationals. The legendary Windies player's toss-losing run lasted from October 1998 to May 1999.

"I don't mind batting second. It is a good pitch, hasn't changed a lot. We have to bowl first, and we just need to focus how to restrict them. At the end of the day, what matters is how well you want to play. We don't want to worry about the toss. We have played good cricket. Another important game. We will see what needs to be done. NZ have been a great team. Another challenge, and we will see how well we can play," Rohit Sharma said, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
Team India and New Zealand will be hungry to secure their dominance in ODI cricket, and winning the Champions Trophy is a spectacular chance of doing so.
