India Champions Triumphs Over Pakistan Champions in Inaugural WCL 2024 Final
Defeating Pakistan by five wickets in an exciting final on Saturday, July 13, at Edgbaston, Birmingham, India grabbed the trophy in the first World Championship of Legends (WCL). After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Pakistan's captain, Younis Khan, guided his side to a respectable 156/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
India responded by effectively hunting down the goal in 19.1 overs, therefore securing a five-wicket triumph. Shining for India, Ambati Rayudu scored a crucial 50 runs off just 30 balls.

Starting with openers Robin Uthappa and Rayudu fiercely attacking the Pakistani bowlers during the powerplay, India's innings got off right. Rayudu struck Aamer Yameen for a six in the first over and a boundary to set the tone. Uthappa kept attacking in the next over, striking Yameen for two boundaries, but the same bowler quickly despatched him. Arriving in third, Suresh Raina struck a boundary on his second ball but was caught by Sohail Tanvir just after, leaving India at 38/2.
Then Rayudu corrected the innings and developed a vital 60-run alliance with Gurkeerat Singh Mann. Reaching his fifty off only 29 balls, Rayudu positioned India strongly at 98/2 following 11 overs. Pakistan responded, though, claiming the wickets of Mann (34 off 33) and Rayudu (50 off 30) inside ten balls.

Notwithstanding the challenges, India's hunt was strengthened by important alliances. Yusuf Pathan and Yuvraj Singh added 42 significant runs from Pakistan's fielding mistakes. Though Yuvraj (15* off 22) battled to accelerate, Pathan's quickfire 30 off 16 balls put India in contention. Pathan was dismissed in the last over, caught by Shoaib Maqsood for a six, leaving India short of 7 runs from the last 10 balls. Then Irfan Pathan secured the win by striking a six on the first ball of the last over.
Pakistan started out poorly earlier, with Anureet Singh removing opener Sharjeel Khan (12 off 10) in the second over. Falling to Vinay Kumar, Sohaib Maqsood's excellent innings came to an end at 21 (12). Seemed destined for a great score, Kamran Akmal was out for 24 and passed Pawan Negi in the ninth over, putting Pakistan at 68/3.
Shoaib Malik anchored Pakistan's innings, but the team suffered in the last five runs particularly following Misbah-ul-Haq's injury from cramping. Thanks to a late surge by Sohail Tanvir, who hit an undefeated 19 off 9 balls, Pakistan reached 156/6 without Misbah.
Even in the Legends tournament, where the country’s best former cricketers participate, Pakistan still couldn’t beat India. It is important to note that the Indian cricket team won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
