India and Afghanistan are all set to lock horns against each other in a three-match T20I series starting January 11. This is the first time India and Afghanistan will play a bilateral T20I series. The BCCI announced the 16-member squad for the highly-anticipated contest on Sunday. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have returned to the T20I side for the first time since the 2022 T20 World Cup.

India and Afghanistan have played a total of five T20I matches against each other with their first meeting coming in 2010. All of these encounters were part of multi-nation tournaments as India and Afghanistan have never played a bilateral T20I series. India have won four out of these five matches against Afghanistan, while one match ended in no result.
