IPL 2025: The buzz around the Indian Premier League hasn't died, even after the culmination of the seventeenth season of the Indian Premier League. There are massive speculations about the mega auctions and the dynamics of mostly all the franchises are expected to change. The Indian Premier league moved to a ten team format in 2022 and since then, the auctions have generated a lot of buzz and the next edition of the Indian Premier League is going to be no different.

The Future Of The Impact Player Rule

The Impact Player rule which was introduced in 2023 generated a lot of buzz in the last two IPL auctions. The rule was introduced to give an added advantage to the teams irrespective of the game situation. But the dissent has grown around the rule and many cricketers have voiced their opinion against it. The odds around this rule is high that it might be scrapped.

Changes In Right To Match Rule And Retentions

The last time the BCCI conducted the mega auction in 2021, there were no Right To Match (RTM) cards. Now, with the mega auction set to be held in less than 3 years, the franchise owners will like to have the Right To Match rule in place. In a meeting that was conducted on July 31, 2024, few franchise owners voiced their opinions against the mega auctions and said that the mega auction which is being conducted in such a short span might effect their brand-building and fan engagement.

Action Against Truant Foreign Players

Just like the Indian stars, foreign players too attract a lot of eyeballs in the Indian Premier league. But, there have been instances where they have withdrawn from the league at the very last moment. These withdrawals effect the team combination and the planning of the sides. There have been various reports that the IPL franchises want the BCCI to take action against the unreliable overseas superstar.

All Eyes On Big Stars

Speculations are rife that Rohit Sharma might part his ways with the Mumbai Indians. Though there has been no official statement given out on this matter, but the former MI superstar might break the bank if he chooses to go back to the mega auction. Its just not about Rohit Sharma, after Hardik Pandya's appointment as the Mumbai Indians skipper, it is being believed that Suryakumar Yadav too might part his ways with MI. Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul too are being expected to enter the auction. Yes, these are all speculations so far, but if anything remotely close to it happens, then the franchises will break their bank to acquire the services of these players.
