Ahead of the much-anticipated RCB clash, CSK have suffered a major blow as Matheesha Pathirana has been ruled out of the next game. Nathan Ellis got the nod in his place in the last game against Mumbai Indians, and he is likely to retain his place as things stand.
CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has confirmed in the pre-match press conference that the Sri Lankan pacer won't feature against Virat Kohli 's side. As quoted by the Indian Express, he said, “Pathirana is recovering from injury. So don’t expect him to play tomorrow."
Both CSK and RCB started their IPL 2025 campaign on a winning note. Riding on Virat Kohli and Phil Salt's onslaught, RCB thrashed the reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2025 opener. On the other hand, CSK got the better of Mumbai Indians by four wickets on March 23 in Chennai.
Pathirana has been a constant presence in the CSK bowling lineup, and his variations have helped CSK to get the best of their opponents. The Sri Lankan star struggled with an injury which also cut short his IPL 2024 campaign. Still he managed to grab 13 wickets in six IPL matches last season, proving his excellence once again. He was retained by CSK in IPL 2025 but is yet to feature for the five time champions. He has registered 34 wickets so far at a decent economy oi 7.68.
