IPL 2025 RETENTION: BCCI Delaying Announcement of Rules Keep Franchises in DARK
The rules of IPL 2025 Retention was reported to be announced by the end of August but there has been a delay.
The rules of IPL 2025 Retention was reported to be announced by the end of August but there has been a delay. So, why the delay. While the reason of the delay is not yet known, it is reported that the franchises are upset as they are still in the dark over a few players. As per a report on InsideSport, the announcement will happen by the end of September. Now this confusion raises a lot of questions for the franchise owners like how many players can they retain, will there be a Right To Match (RTM) among others.
‘We still do not know the number of retentions’
“We have only heard from the BCCI that it will be delayed. We still don’t know about the number of retentions, the number of RTMs, or anything else regarding the IPL auction. There is no clarity on when exactly the auction will be,” a franchise official told InsideSport.
What is understood that franchises want at least eight retentions, but that does not seem to be possible as the more realistic number would be four or five.
“Look, we have only heard positive things about RTMs. But at this moment, we are not sure. I can only confirm what BCCI has officially conveyed to us (franchises). But the fact is, the BCCI has not confirmed anything to the teams. So, RTMs could be back or may not be depending on the number of retentions allowed,” the franchise official added.
What's up with Team India?
The Indian cricket team reached Chennai on Thursday morning and have also resumed practice. The Indian team would host Bangladesh for a two-Test series. The first Test takes place in Chennai and the second and final Test happens at the Green Park in Kanpur. Both these games are part of the current World Test Championship cycle.
