Looking at their present form, a couple of Under-19 players including captain Yash Dhull are expected to fetch a big amount in the IPL Auction. However, vice-captain Shaikh Rasheed, wicketkeeper Dinesh Bana and pacer Ravi Kumar and Nishant Sindhu will miss out on an IPL Contract as their names are not included in the auction list. Hardik Pandya will be leading newly-formed Gujarat Titans franchise this season after being released by Mumbai Indians. He recently gave an update regarding his IPL 2022 preparation in his Instagram story. The cricketer posted a story in which he could be seen rolling his arm in the nets. The 28-year-old is joined by elder brother Krunal Pandya in the nets.

• All team officials of the franchises will need to return with the COVID-19 negative RT-PCR report on February 9, 10, and 11. The testing will be done by BCCI-accredited medical agency. 
• Unlike the IPL 2018 mega auction, there will be no Right to Match(RTM) option available for the franchises in the upcoming auctions.
• The salary purse for the teams has been increased from INR 80 crore to INR 90 crore for the IPL 2022 players auction, as it will let the teams accumulate more players. This is an effort from BCCI to rope in more young talents with a primary focus on the Indian domestic circuit.
• The Indian cricket governing board will keep a close eye on the individuals arriving at the team hotel on February 11 and they will be closely monitored for any Covid-19 symptoms.
• The testing for COVID-19 will take place from 12 AM to 7 AM for the smooth conduct of the auctions. The members are required to stay put in their hotel rooms until their negative test reports arrive.
• All attendees of the auction are expected to share full details about them, including the COVID vaccination results with BCCI’s medical team (If any).
• The participants of the auction are required to wear masks in the auditorium at all times. 

Punjab Kings(PBKS) co-owner Preity Zinta took to her official Twitter handle on Friday morning, stating: "This year I’m going to miss the IPL Auction as I cannot leave my little ones  & travel to India. I wanted to reach out to our fans & ask them if they have any player suggestions”. In her absence, veteran Indian bowler Anil Kumble will lead Punjab Kings in the Auction table.

During the auction, if a team spends its entire available amount in its purse to purchase a player, the IPL management has a specific rule for this situation, called the ‘Silent Tiebreaker’. It allows the team to sign the player with a ‘Silent Tiebreaker’ bid despite having no money to spend. Both teams will be required to submit written bids with the amount they are willing to pay for the player. The highest bidder will go ahead and sign the cricketer, while there is no limit to the bid franchises can submit while using this rule.

Ahead of the player retention for the IPL 2022, all the 10 teams in IPL 2022 were handed a budget of INR 90 crore each. Ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, a total of 27 players were retained by the eight existing franchises, while the two new teams of Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans have signed three players each. 

Chennai Super Kings have retained four players and are they have a salary purse left of INR 48 crore. Delhi Capitals have also retained four players and are left with budget of INR 47.5 crore.

The youngest player in this IPL 2022 mega auction is Afghanistan's 17-year-old Noor Ahmad. The youngster is a left-arm wrist-spinner already has T20 experience, having played in the leagues like BBL and PSL. However, he is yet to make his international debut.

The oldest player in the IPL 2022 mega auction is South Africa's Imran Tahir at 43 years of age. The veteran was a part of the  Chennai Super Kings title-winning squad in the 2021 edition. He is currently representing Multan Sultans in the PSL and recently featured in Legends League Cricket.

The lowest base price of any player during the IPL 2022 mega auction is INR 20 lakh while the highest base price during the IPL 2022 mega auction is INR 2 crore. The 10 marquee players have all been marked at INR 2 crore.

Overall, there are 48 players (17 Indian and 31 overseas) with a base price of INR 2 crore, and then the base price reduces to INR 1.5 crore, INR 1 crore, INR 75 lakh, INR 50 lakh, INR 40 lakh, INR 30 lakh and INR 20 lakh.

The players have been divided into different sets based on their specialty, keeping aside a group of ten marquee players who will open the auction. The marquee set will be followed by a full round of capped players based on specialisation i.e batsmen, allrounders, wicketkeeper-batsmen, fast bowlers, and spin bowlers. After the set of capped players are finished the attention will then turn towards the uncapped players who will then go under the hammer. 

The IPL teams should have a minimum of 18 players and a maximum of 25 players in their respective squad. The amount that IPL teams can spend is a minimum of INR 67.5 crore from their total purse of INR 90 crore. Each squad can have a maximum of eight overseas players in the squad.

"There will be a lot of fights over leg-spinners. There are plenty of leg-spinners, the quantity is more but not the quality. I see the quality in just three or four and most of the money will go in that only. That's the trend we will notice," Aakash Chopra said.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prithvi Shaw and Avesh Khan have caught the eye of cricket legend Ponting. He thinks all the three will make it to the Indian team after impressing in this year's edition of the IPL.

"There is definitely going to be a bidding war for Avesh Khan. No doubt about that. Guarantee," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

While speaking on his official YouTube channel, R Ashwin revealed that Avesh Khan may trigger a massive bidding war at the IPL auction 2022. A total of 600 players are set to go under the hammer in the IPL mega auctions in Bengaluru. The IPL 2022 Auction is scheduled for February 12 & 13 and will be held from 11:00 AM IST onwards.

Although most IPL 2022 retentions went as per expectations, some franchises did make some bold decisions by releasing marquee players. For example, Punjab Kings released captain KL Rahul, while Rajasthan Royals released the English star duo of Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes. 

Meanwhile, the two new teams will have signed three-star players respectively from the list of available players from December 1 to 25, here is a complete list of all the players signed and retained:

 

Deepak Hooda was moved up the IPL auction 2022 ladder and now comprises of top 3 all-rounders' bracket. Before the IPL 2022 auction, the all-rounder was listed in set no. 8, with base price ofINR 40 lakh, however, earning an India cap saw his revised base price going up to INR 75 lakh.

Hugh Edmeades was appointed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in 2018 to conduct the IPL auctions. He replaced the previous auctioneer Richard Madley and has been responsible for conducting the mega event each year ever since. Edmeades has over 35 years of experience in conducting auctions and has led more than 2,500 auctions globally.

1) Former SRH captain David Warner is undoubtedly a player that can be one of the top targets in the upcoming IPL auction 2022 after he was released. The Australian has years of experience in the IPL as he has led SRH to the title in 2016 and has also delivered on several other occasions.

2) Faf du Plessis could also be one of the top targets in the upcoming IPL auction after he finished as the second-highest scorer in last season's competition.

3) The third player that can receive a lot of interest is New Zealand pacer Trent Boult, who is known for his ability to pick up wickets in the opening few overs and containing the batting side in the death overs.
