Former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers highlighted the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's chances of winning the IPL title in the 2025 season. While the former RCB star said that a lot of factors come into play, ABD believes that the team which would hold on to the energy and exploit the home advantage has a sure-shot chance of winning the IPL title this year.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru men's side has remained elusive of the coveted IPL title. The team's trophy cabinet features the sole WPL title which the women's team won during the 2024 season. With the IPL entering its 18th season, RCB would be hungry to clinch the title, but they would face a lot of competition from the remaining nine sides. AB de Villiers has highlighted his thoughts on his former franchise's chances of winning the title.
"Winning the IPL is incredibly difficult. There are 10 world-class teams that could even win a World Cup, let alone the IPL. So many factors come into play -- travel, team strategies, injuries, and adapting to different conditions throughout the season. The team that manages to maintain energy and momentum towards the back end of the tournament usually comes out on top. Teams that capitalize on their home advantage tend to perform well.
"I hope this is the year -- the 18th season, with number 18 (Virat) in the squad. If RCB lifts the trophy, I will be there celebrating with Virat!" AB de Villiers said during an appearance on Jio Hotstar.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have built their team from the ground up and acquired some key players during the IPL mega auction. The management built the team around Rajat Patidar, who was announced as the new captain for the IPL 2025 season. Virat Kohli, who was retained by the RCB, is also expected to play an important role in the team.
RCB will compete in the IPL season opener clash, and they will face the Kolkata Knight Rider in an away match at the iconic Eden Gardens on March 22, 2025.
