Former Team India spinner Harbhajan Singh has kept Rajat Patidar on the knife's edge after he delivered a blunt remark on his captaincy. The Indian spin icon revealed the parameters on which Patidar would be judged in the IPL 2025 season. He emphasized that RCB needs to perform well in the upcoming season, as Patidar's captaincy would be evaluated on its basis.
After much anticipation, Rajat Patidar was handed the reins to lead the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. His captaincy career begins from the 18th edition of the IPL, and Patidar would be tested against the mighty defending champions. However, there has been scepticism over Patidar's credibility as a captain, and Harbhajan Singh has expressed how big of a challenge would it be for him after beginning his career as RCB's skipper.
"For someone like Patidar, it will be a huge challenge. Captaining a big team like that is not going to be easy. Deciding which players to leave out, who to bowl when. This is not something that he has done before. People think captaining your country is tough, but I think it's even tougher leading a franchise because I have done it.
"Patidar will face a lot of pressure, people will have a lot of expectations from him because RCB have not yet won a trophy. Leading superstars like Virat Kohli, who is the main man of the team. Managing all of these things and then his own batting. RCB say that they have made Patidar captain for 5 seasons, but if they don't perform well this season, we'll have to see where Patidar stands," Harbhajan Singh said as per ESPNCricinfo.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru made the bold decision to drop players like Mohammed Siraj, Will Jacks, Faf du Plessis and many more and retained Rajat Patidar, Virat Kohli and Yash Dayal in the mix. The team was built up from scratch during the IPL mega auction, and they picked up some notable stars in the realm of cricket.
With the IPL 2025 season beginning today, all eyes will be on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who will be aiming to win the season after remaining title-less in the past 17 seasons. Rajat Patidar's captaincy will be thoroughly analyzed in 2025.
