'Hardik Pandya backstabs Rohit Sharma': Netizens in shock as MI sacks Indian captain

In a shocking turn of events, Hardik Pandya has been named the captain of Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2024 season. The move comes just days after the franchise confirmed the return of Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans in an all-cash deal, the first of its kind in the Indian Premier League. Rohit Sharma, who led MI to a record five titles in the IPL, has been sacked to make room for the new captain Hardik Pandya.  

Mumbai Indians confirmed in a statement that the decision is part of legacy building and staying true to the MI philosophy of being future-ready. Mumbai Indians also expressed their gratitude to Rohit Sharma for serving the franchise as a captain since 2013. MI further wished Hardik Pandya all the best for his new role as Mumbai Indians captain.

Meanwhile, netizens are in shock with the latest development as they are accusing Hardik Pandya and Mumbai Indians of backstabbing Rohit Sharma. Note, it was under Rohit Sharma's captaincy that Mumbai Indians achieved great success and won a record five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 trophies between 2013 and 2020.

Hardik Pandya was bought by Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2015 auction. Pandya was groomed by Rohit Sharma to an extent as he slowly turned the Gujarat cricketer into a match-winner with both the bat and the ball. Hardik Pandya eventually got picked by the Indian team as an all-rounder and the rest is history.
