The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) put together an excellent IPL 2024 campaign but fell short at the final hurdle in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). SRH were no match in the finals as KKR completely ran over them and emerged victorious by 8 wickets to win their third IPL crown.

Post the defeat, Sunrisers Hyderabad were obviously hurting and they got some encouraging words from their captain Pat Cummins and head coach Daniel Vettori to lift their moods and spirit.

In a video posted by Sunrisers Hyderabad on their social media handles, Daniel Vettori and Pat Cummins were seen delivering a heartfelt message to the dressing room post the finals defeat.

Despite the hammering loss against KKR in the finals, Vettori said that the players should be incredibly proud of the effort by the team as they put together a really special season for the franchise especially after finishing the last one at the bottom of the table.

“Amazing season guys, you should be incredibly proud of what you've achieved this tournament. I know some of you were here last year so to bounce back from that, to step up, to play the style of cricket that Pat, myself, and the coaches asked. You guys have been amazing. This is the starting point for hopefully most of us going into next year but IPL can take us into a number of different directions but I think what you've achieved with Sunrisers this year remains special to the franchise and everyone who's been here this year”, said Daniel Vettori.

Additionally Daniel Vettori did admit that given IPL's uncertainty over the mega auction he isn't sure whether they will be able to bring the entire group back together but hopes that there's still more to do with the team.

"So congratulations to you guys and best of luck to the guys who are going to the World Cup. As soon as we know things that are happening within the franchise, we will obviously communicate and hopefully there's a lot of games between us".

SRH skipper Pat Cummins carried forward Vettori's message and simply thanked his players for amazing couple of months.

“Thanks so much, it's been such an amazing couple of months, I think IPL you speak to some other teams it can be turned into quite a long tournament or it could be the most enjoyable two months of the year”, said Pat Cummins.

Pat Cummins further lauded his players for staying committed to the style and brand of cricket they wanted to play a

"Everyone's commitment to playing the way we wanted but also being upbeat. That's all huge contribution to what you bring to this squad and what you've brought in the last couple of months to make it such a memorable time. Thanks so much to everything you've brought into this team. The easy option is being selfish but everyone's really brought we wanted and hope you've all enjoyed it. So thanks so much it's been long and it's been fun. Hopefully we will cross paths again soon. So thank you", concluded Pat Cummins.

SRH lost the chance to win their second IPL crown and their records in the IPL finals is now 1 win and 2 losses as previously they lost the 2018 final against CSK under the captaincy of Kane Williamson.
