Indian Premier League: Gujarat Titans' new recruit Glenn Phillips showered praise on skipper Shubman Gill and called him a ‘phenomenal player’ at a young age. The Titans roped in Glenn Phillips at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega-auction for an amount of Rs 6.25 crore.
The Gujarat-based franchise will lock horns against the Mumbai Indians in their upcoming clash in the ongoing extravagant tournament.
Speaking to PTI, Phillips said it is a great opportunity for him to play alongside Gill in the ongoing edition of the IPL.
"He's been a phenomenal player for so many years at such a young age, so to be able to understand his brain and how he works would be a great opportunity," Phillips told PTI.
The Kiwi added that it would be an unfortunate situation for him if he doesn't use his knowledge on his game as well.
“We had a team dinner the other night and I had a good catch up with him. We've obviously played against each other quite a few times, but it was nice to get to know him on a more personal level and find out the things he likes to do, but then obviously also the way he thinks about the game as well. It'd be a bit of an unfortunate situation if I don't use his knowledge and his ability to try and improve on my own game as well,” he added.
Gill played 104 IPL matches, scoring 3249 runs at a strike rate of 136.28 and an average of 37.78. In IPL 2024, the GT skipper scored 426 runs from 12 matches at a strike rate of 147.40.
The Gujarat-based franchise started their IPL 2025 voyage with a disappointing 11-run defeat to the Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 25. Currently, GT stands in ninth place on the IPL 2025 standings with a net run rate of -0.550.
