IPL 2025: Teams to get biggest purse in league's history, 5 retentions allowed, 1 RTM card

The auction for the IPL 2025 season is expected to take place in November this year. The changes will be confirmed by the BCCI before the auction.

In a significant development, the Indian Premier League ( IPL ) governing council is set to approve a revolutionary plan for the 2025 season, allowing teams to retain up to five players and utilize one right-to-match (RTM) card in the auction. This 5+1 model, if approved, would mark the highest number of retentions in IPL history, providing franchises with unprecedented flexibility to build their squads.

IPL 2025 to get new rules

The retention policy has been a topic of discussion, and it is unclear whether there will be restrictions on the number of Indian players or overseas players that can be retained. Additionally, the retention slabs and the overall purse for the IPL 2025 season are yet to be confirmed. However, reports suggest that the purse could be in the range of INR 115-120 crore, a substantial increase from previous seasons.

The IPL governing council is expected to finalize the details during their meeting in Bengaluru, ahead of the BCCI's annual general meeting on Sunday. Once confirmed, the new expected changes will set the stage for a thrilling IPL 2025 season, with teams eager to build their squads and compete for the coveted title.

Jay Shah announces historic match fees in IPL

Earlier, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced a pathbreaking change to the Indian Premier League's ( IPL ) match fee structure. For the first time in IPL history, players will receive a match fee of INR 7.5 lakh per game, in addition to their contracted amount. This development follows the recent IPL governing council meeting in Bengaluru.

Jay Shah took to social media to share the exciting news, stating, "In a historic move to celebrate consistency and champion outstanding performances in the # IPL , we are thrilled to introduce a match fee of INR 7.5 lakhs per game for our cricketers! A cricketer playing all league matches in a season will get Rs. 1.05 crores in addition to his contracted amount" 

This innovative move is set to revolutionize the IPL , with each franchise allocated INR 12.60 crores for match fees per season. Jay Shah emphasized, "Each franchise will allocate INR 12.60 crores as match fees for the season! This is a new era for the #IPL and our players!"
