'IPL is like the Olympic Games': Justin Langer draws comparison between two sporting spectacle

In a recent interaction, newly appointed Lucknow Super Giants head coach Justin Langer compared Indian Premier League with the Olympics.

IPL 2024 is expected to bring in more excitement

A lot of changes happened this year as franchises aimed to bounce back strongly in the next campaign. The recently held IPL auction broke all the records as teams splashed money in order to strengthen their ranks. Kolkata Knight Riders spent a staggering 24.75 crore to bring in Mitchell Starc as he became the most expensive player in IPL history while Sunrisers Hyderabad too picked up Pat Cummins for 20.50 crore.

Some changes at the management level also were executed as Justin Langer has been appointed as the head coach of Lucknow Super Giants. Langer was in charge of the Australian cricket team that lifted the T20 World Cup title for the first time in 2021. The former Australian opener will have the onus to guide LSG to the ultimate glory.

LSG coach Justin Langer heaps praises on IPL

In a video posted by the franchise Langer compared the IPL with the Olympics as he feels every game in the tournament is huge. "Having sat with Ricky for so long and he talked about his time with the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. How much he loves the tournament. And Tom Moody, one of my best friends, he's been so involved in the IPL and just to hear them talking about it.

β€œThe IPL is like the Olympic Games. It is so big. Every game is a spectacle, it is so well received, it is so well supported, not just at the stadiums, all through India and around the world. To have the opportunity to be a part of that is something I am very, very excited about.”
