In a major turn of events, one of India's most prolific spinners, R Ashwin, is all set to return to his old IPL franchise, CSK. After the culmination of the IPL 2024 season, in which Chennai failed to defend their title, the revelation was made that Ash is heading to Chennai and joining the Super Kings. Veteran spinner R Ashwin return to the Super Kings, but there's a major catch

Veteran Indian spinner R Ashwin has rejoined the Chennai Super Kings group, but he will function in a different capacity. Ashwin will take charge of CSK's high-performance centre, which has been built by the India Cements group. Ash was a part of the Super Kings from IPL seasons 2008 to 2015. While he is not back as a player, he will be vita;l in leading a performance center that will help nourish the rising cricketers. The Team India spinner is positive regarding his return to the Super Kings and is elated to share his expertise in the realm of cricket.

“Growing the game and contributing to the cricketing fraternity is my primary focus. I feel elated to be back to where it all began for me,” Ashwin exclaimed as quoted by Sportstar.

Chennai Super Kings' CRO K.S. Viswanathan also expressed his zeal to have R Ashwin back in the fray and reckoned that he will be a key part in the high-performance center.

“He is one of the best cricketers from Tamil Nadu and is known for his drive towards excellence. His commitment to the game at any level, be it for India, Tamil Nadu, or even the club, is well known. He will be a great person to guide the centre and nurture the young talents coming through,” said Viswanathan.

The High-Performance Centre of CSK is situated in Navalur, which is a suburb of Chennai. Ashwin will be crucial in leading the centre academies. The center's field is prepared, and more infrastructure are being developed. This year, the location will host TNCA first-division matches in addition to CSK's practice session during the IPL.
