The Mumbai Indians fans would have to wait for the arrival of star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah as coach Mahela Jayawardene has revealed that the pacer continues his rehab with the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. As the waiting game continues, the MI coach also disclosed that no specific timeline has been offered by the NCA, which adds fuel to the suspense of Bumrah's comeback in the Indian Premier League.
Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back injury during the Border Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia, and he has remained out of action ever since. Team India went on to win the ICC Champions Trophy sans Bumrah, and he is yet to join the Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2025 season. Ahead of the GT vs MI league stage clash, coach Mahela Jayawardene offered an update on the Indian pacer.
“Everyone is available except for Bumrah. Like I said in my last interview as well, it's on a daily basis that he's going through his programme. So far, everything seems okay. But there were no timelines given by NCA, so we'll wait on that,” Mahela Jayawardene said while speaking to the media, as quoted by PTI.
Mumbai Indians began their IPL 2025 campaign against their arch-rivals, the Chennai Super Kings, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The visitors did not have their regular skipper Hardik Pandya, as he was suspended for a match. MI failed to impress with the bat as their top order collapsed heavily. But one of the team's positives was Vignesh Puthur as the debutant scalped three wickets to shake up CSK's momentum.
Despite Puthur's standout performance, Chennai Super Kings reigned supreme, with MS Dhoni showcasing flair with a spectacular stumping effort to dismiss skipper Suryakumar Yadav. The batting unit took care of the rest, with Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad helping the team go past the target.
Mumbai will face the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on 29th March 2025, at 07:390 PM IST.
