Indian Premier League: Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) newly appointed mentor Dwayne Bravo opened up on taking Gautam Gambhir's place in the franchise and admitted that he has messaged the former Indian batter asking for help ahead of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In the previous season of the T20 tournament, the Knight Riders clinched the title after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the final.
Ahead of the 2025 season, Gambhir left his role in the Kolkata-based franchise to become the Indian men's cricket team's head coach. Last year, KKR announced that the former West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo has become the franchise's new mentor.
While speaking at the pre-season press conference, Bravo said that he will be learning a lot from the team management in the upcoming season.
"Definitely, I messaged him a few times and stuff. But again, I will be leaning a lot on these guys because they had a successful formula. And it's important that we follow that formula. I think it's going to be disrespectful of me not to try and find out some of the good things he did last season. But also, the core of the team is here," Bravo said as quoted by PTI.
The Caribbean added that they have lost a few players during the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Bravo further added that both he and Gambhir are successful in their way.
"Unfortunately, we lost some players. But I think GG had his style, I have my style. We're both successful in our own ways," he added.
In the previous season of the cash-rich tournament, KKR conceded just three defeats and won the prestigious title for a record third time.
The upcoming IPL 2025 will begin on March 22. Title defender Kolkata Knight Riders will be facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening match of the tournament. Earlier this month, KKR appointed Ajinkya Rahane as their captain for the 18th season of the tournament. Venkatesh Iyer will be Rahane's deputy in IPL 2025.
