KPL match fixing case: All about CM Gautam, the former IPL cricketer

Former Karnataka Ranji player CM Gautam was recently arrested on charges of spot-fixing in the KPL final. Here, we take a look at the career of the cricketer.

Former Ranji Trophy player CM Gautam was arrested by the Karnataka Police on Thursday on charges of spot-fixing in the Karnataka Premier League (KPL). During the KPL final earlier this year, Gautam allegedly accepted ₹20 lakh to bat slowly against Hubli Tigers while playing for Bellary Tuskers. At the time, Gautam was also the captain of his team, who lost that game by 8 runs.

All about CM Gautam, the former IPL cricketer

Among the players involved in the KPL fixing scandal, CM Gautam is by far the biggest name to come out. The 33-year old cricketer has loads of experience in the Indian domestic circuit. Gautam has played List A cricket for Karnataka and India A and has also represented teams like Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).

He was part of the RCB squad from 2010-12 but the wicketkeeper-batsman never made a cut into the playing XI. Gautam was then roped in by Delhi Daredevils in 2013 but was released by the franchise for the very next season where he was then picked up by Mumbai Indians. Overall, he has played 13 matches for all IPL franchises combined, scoring 169 runs at an average of 16.9.

He was a prolific run-scorer in the first-class format, scoring 4,716 runs in 94 matches. He registered 10 centuries and 24 half-centuries, with his highest score being an unbeaten epic 264. In List A format, Gautam maintained an average of 31.89 while in T20 matches, the right-hander scored 511 runs in 48 games.
