In a rare and unexpected incident at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, a member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) was struck in the head by a six during the second Test between England and Sri Lanka. The unfortunate incident occurred when Sri Lanka's middle-order batsman, Kamindu Mendis, launched a powerful shot that soared into the pavilion.

MCC member hit in the head by a ball

The MCC member, who was seated in the prestigious Lord's pavilion, attempted to catch the ball as it went towards him. However, the ball, traveling at significant speed, burst through his hands and struck him directly on the head. The blow left spectators in the pavilion and on the field momentarily stunned.

Immediately after the incident, paramedics were called to check on the MCC member's condition. Thankfully, after being assessed by medical personnel, the member was declared fine. He was later seen speaking to some of the Sri Lankan players, which provided reassurance to those concerned about his well-being.

Kamindu Mendis, the batter responsible for the towering six, was informed of the incident as he returned to the Sri Lankan dressing room. Mendis, known for his sportsmanship, expressed concern for the MCC member and made inquiries about his condition, ensuring that no serious harm had been done.

As the match continued, the focus returned to the on-field action. Mendis scored 74 off 120 balls as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 196 runs in their first innings. England have taken control of the match and are currently 256 runs ahead after the end of the first innings. England will look to hand Sri Lanka yet another defeat in the series. The home side had won the first Test match by 5 wickets and will aim to seal the series 2-0.
