Rohit Sharma Wants Team Management to Be ‘Cautious’ With Young Pacer Mayank Yadav

While speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference in Bengaluru, Team India skipper Rohit Sharma opened up on Mayank Yadav's extraordinary showcase. However, Rohit wants to move the pacer with caution as he has dealt with several injuries in the past. The skipper stressed the need to monitor his daily progress and eventually make him work with the red ball.

"Mayank has shown what he is capable of, but we need to be cautious with him. He has dealt with several injuries in the past, so we don't want to rush him. We'll monitor him daily and gradually build up his workload with the red ball. Our aim is to develop him progressively rather than throwing him straight into international cricket," Rohit Sharma said ahead of the 1st IND vs NZ Test Match in Bengaluru.

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma offers a major BGT revelation

The India skipper also revealed a key detail about the reason for having travelling reserves like Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Mayank Yadav. Rohit said that the management wanted to keep them in the squad as they are considering taking them to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, which will take place later in the year.

"We wanted to keep them close because we are thinking of taking them to Australia. It's important to monitor their workloads and gradually build them up to see what they can offer. We want to create bench strength, especially with fast bowlers. We have 8 or 9 options, not just 3 or 4. Like we have multiple options in batting, we want the same depth with our bowlers," The skipper of the Indian Cricket Team revealed.

Team India would begin their three-match Test series against New Zealand, starting October 16th, 2024, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
